Since Shrines arrived in 2012 and immediately sounded like nothing else, Purity Ring have been one of electronic music's most singular propositions. The Canadian duo of Megan James and Corin Roddick built their reputation on music that operates at the intersection of the intimate and the overwhelming: soft vocals wreathed in synth architecture that feels both fragile and enormous.
Their self-titled fourth album leans into a new obsession, the emotional language of video game soundtracks, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Nier: Automata, filtered through their own unmistakable palette. Live, that world becomes something else again, built as much from light and visual language as from sound.
Purity Ring plays The Tivoli for Open Season. For the ones who want to get lost in something.
Open Season is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland's Strategic Partnerships Fund, and by the Australian Government through the Office for the Arts Revive Live program.
A message from Purity Ring:
Purity Ring kindly requests that you wear a respirator (N95 or KN95) for the duration of the show. There will be free high-filtration masks at the door for those who don’t have them. We want our shows to be a place where we take care of each other. wearing a high-filtration mask is an act of material care and a show of solidarity with disabled and immunocompromised people. It's a small thing we can do to keep each other safe.
