Somewhere between the red dust of central Australia and the front row of a KISS show, Mulga Bore Hard Rock found their calling. The six-piece family band from Akaye, a remote community two hours northeast of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, have built their sound on a diet of KISS, Guns N' Roses and Status Quo, filtered through the Anmatyerre country they call home. Frontman Alvin Manfong leads the charge with big riffs, even bigger anthems, and lyrics in both English and the language of their mob.
They formed at a school of twenty students. They won a Battle of the Bands. Then they opened for KISS on the End of the Road tour. Between that and a packed 2024 that took in GARMA, Mona Foma, Big Sound and SXSW Sydney, plus a new album and debut single, the story doesn't really need embellishment.
Mulga Bore Hard Rock for Open Season. For anyone who ever suspected the best rock and roll band in the country might be teenagers from the desert.
Open Season is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland's Strategic Partnerships Fund, and by the Australian Government through the Office for the Arts Revive Live program.
